If you know trucks, you know the Ford F-Series. It's been America's bestselling truck for 48 years and the top-selling vehicle for 43. The 2026 Ford F-150 continues that winning streak with a range of smart tweaks to a proven formula. At Stivers Ford Lincoln in Des Moines, we're excited for drivers to see how the latest model blends classic truck toughness with new tech and comfort. Are you curious about what's different? Let's break it down.
What's New in the 2026 Ford F-150
For 2026, Ford builds on the F-150's strengths with practical updates instead of a full redesign. The full range of trusty engines makes a comeback, so you can still pick from the fuel-efficient 2.7 or 3.5-liter V-6, classic 5.0-liter V-8, hybrid PowerBoost, or go all-in with a Raptor engine. Ford also updated its driver-assist features and made more of them available on lower trims.
All F-150s use a smooth-shifting 10-speed automatic transmission, with expanded bed and cab options. The all-electric Lightning lineup adds a new STX trim with off-road flair, special graphics, and a heated steering wheel. Additionally, Pro Power Onboard expands to more models, allowing you to plug in up to 7.2 kW (for tools or tailgates) directly from the bed.
Refreshed Design and Exterior Styling Updates
The 2026 Ford F-150 retains the bold look from its 2021 redesign and 2024 facelift but adds some modern touches. The front grille receives gets updates that align with Ford's current design direction. New LED lighting, standard on all trims, improves visibility and style. Available Dynamic Bending Headlamps swivel up to 15 degrees to light up curves. This helps when you're driving at night on winding Iowa back roads.
Wheel options range from 18 inches on base models to 37 inches on the most extreme packages, such as the Raptor. New colors for 2026 include Argon Blue, Marsh Gray, and Ruby Red Metallic. The Pro Access Tailgate swings out 100 degrees to bring the bed 19 inches closer to you. This makes bed access easier, even when you've got a trailer hitched up.
Enhanced Interior Comfort and Convenience
The 2026 F-150 cabin changes depending on the trim you pick. Base XL models are made from tough materials ideal for daily work use. Upper trims, such as King Ranch and Platinum, offer premium finishes that rival those of luxury vehicles. The interior work surface on equipped models turns the center console into a flat workspace by incorporating a stowable shifter. It's ideal for your laptop or handling paperwork on the go.
Regular Cab models seat three, while SuperCab versions feature a rear bench that accommodates six. SuperCrew configurations have full-size rear doors and comfortable seating for five. Storage solutions include lockable bins under the rear seats, ideal for tools and valuables. Flip-up rear seats in SuperCrew models provide extra cargo space when the bed is full or when items need protection from the elements.
Infotainment and Connectivity
A 12-inch digital gauge cluster comes standard and is easy to read, whether you're checking towing stats or keeping an eye on your speed limit near Gray's Lake Park. The big touchscreen runs Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wirelessly. There are no tangled cords. There's just music and maps, exactly how you want them.
Stepping up to the new Ford Connectivity Package gets you an unlimited Wi-Fi hotspot for a full year, navigation with live traffic updates, and a voice assistant. Ford's over-the-air updates mean your F-150 can get new features downloaded right from your driveway. There's also a wireless charging pad and an optional 14-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system that makes your playlist sound amazing on the way to Principal Park.
Powertrain Options and Performance Improvements
There's an engine setup for just about any driver. The 2.7-liter V-6 is the entry-level engine, producing 325 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. It gets 18-19 mpg in the city and 23-25 mpg on the highway. This twin-turbo engine tows up to 8,400 pounds and handles a payload of 1,775 pounds. Good for light-duty work and daily driving.
Do you want the classic V-8? The 5.0-liter V-8 makes 400 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque. It tows up to 12,900 pounds and gets 16 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway.
The 3.5-liter V-6 is the towing champion with 382 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque. It can tow a maximum of 13,500 pounds and manage payloads of up to 2,440 pounds. Twin intercooled turbochargers give you immediate throttle response.
The 3.5-liter PowerBoost Full Hybrid V-6 combines electric motors with gasoline power for 420 horsepower and 570 pound-feet of torque. It gets 22 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway while towing up to 11,600 pounds. This hybrid features Pro Power Onboard, which provides up to 7.2 kW of exportable electricity. You basically get a mobile generator for tools, RVs, or emergency backup power.
Performance enthusiasts can opt for Raptor models equipped with the 3.5-liter High Output V-6, which produces 450 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque. The Raptor R upgrades to a supercharged 5.2-liter V-8 pumping out 720 horsepower and 640 pound-feet of torque. No matter what you pick, you get a 10-speed automatic that's smooth and lets you find the right gear for towing, highway cruising, or slipping through snowy Iowa roads. You can also choose from rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive, depending on the trim level.
Advanced Safety and Driver-Assist Technology
Ford's Co-Pilot360 package is standard on every F-150. You get forward automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane keeping, and rear cross-traffic alerts. Ford continues to improve its BlueCruise hands-free highway driving system. If you do long highway drives around the Midwest, your F-150 can take a lot of the stress out of the trip. Other helpful add-ons, such as a surround-view camera, trailer backup assist, and theft deterrent alarm, give you added peace of mind.
